Strategies to get the optimal Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and pick a perfect Kitty Hawk rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. A great place to relax and enjoy the ocean! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
