Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kitty Hawk area. To book the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book the perfect Kitty Hawk rental home:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Booking Fall 2024 and 2025. Great Location, Fido Friendly, Great Reviews has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Kitty Hawk attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
