Getting the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your Kitty Hawk vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the best Kitty Hawk vacation home:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coastal home with private pool, firepit, golf course views, & outdoor shower has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
