Booking the best Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Kitty Hawk rental home:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Kitty Hawk area. Reserve your Kitty Hawk rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the rightrental home:
- First, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Coastal home with private pool, firepit, golf course views, & outdoor shower has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Have a great stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
