Blackbeard's Treasure might not be here, but you will make treasured memories! The WIE Village is unique in many ways...made from mostly local OBX re-purposed materials, combined with appeal, accommodate 2 to 10 people. Two pods & main home borders 1600 acres of nature preserve within 2 mi of the beach. To accommodate bigger events, reserve Pod Messi &/or Pod Zeus in addition to Main House. These listings can be found under my profile!

The space
COVID-19 Friendly - Separate Entrance, Routine cleaning & Sanitized Space! This 1200 square feet home is a combination of mostly re-purposed wood from multiple homes, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach homes. It has a marvelous beachy feel to it, and though it has a modest footprint the feeling is cavernous. Includes a fireplace to take the chill off.
The WIE House is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 !
Look forward to having you to one of the most unique properties you will ever stay in!!!!
Guest access
You will have the whole main home to yourself and your guests, including GOURMET Kitchen with a drip-style coffee maker!
You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.)
Other things to note
This is a gorgeous waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind the WIE Village !
With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building huge homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.

This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved!

The WIE House is modest in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is constructed to be as maintenance-complimentary, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few!

A walkway will wind you up to the home that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of cars allowed on the lot.

Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density homes on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home!

The first WIE House was constructed on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest became available for rent during Spring 2017.

Tips for getting the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in Kitty Hawk. Book your Kitty Hawk rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking your Kitty Hawk vacation home:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Waterfront Treasure - Main WIE House has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
