Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the best vacation rental in Kitty Hawk:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Sea Dunes condo with community pool and tennis, beach access, porch swing, baby gate, and WiFi has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Kitty Hawk attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
