Rental home tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kitty Hawk area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Walk to the beach, shops and resturants! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
