Tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to visit Kitty Hawk & When to reserve a Kitty Hawk rental home:
- Summer time is high season in Kitty Hawk. To find the best value, change your family's Kitty Hawk vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies supply Kitty Hawk area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking yourrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. NEW! Duck Beachhouse\/ Private Beach\/ Dogs Allowed has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is best for your group.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
