Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Kitty Hawk rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Right on the Beach and Dog Friendly! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
