Tricks and tips to get the perfect Kitty Hawk rental experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- To find the best value, change your family's Kitty Hawk vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home in Kitty Hawk:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. The Pirates' Retreat (2-Bedroom Cottage) - Pets Allowed by RedAwning has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Kitty Hawk destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
