- Approximately 1500 square feet
This unique 24-acre resort property located right on the edge of the Town of Duck, NC, sits between the Ocean and the Sound, and offers access to both. This is arguably one of the best locations in the Outer Banks for convenience and walking / cycling proximity to multiple activities and dining options.
THE SPACE
From your unit you can walk to the Beach, Outdoor pool area, and the Sound. Being on the outskirts of the Town of Duck, you are just a few mins. drive from shopping or dining along the 1-mile boardwalk located along the Sound. Some people can walk / bicycle this distance, but that depends on the family. In the evenings try not to miss some of the spectacular sunsets over the Sound.
This is a very enormous 2BR/2.5BA lock-off unit at approx. 1,500+ sq ft combined. So plenty of space for your entire family or group. This unit is rated to sleep eight persons (8).
The A side – 1BR/1.5BA: King Size bed, Full Kitchen with Stove, Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender, etc. Sit up bar / 3 stools, Dining Table / 6 chairs, Living Room area with Loveseat and Queen Sleeper couch, and outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
The B side – 1BR/1BA: Queen Size bed, Partial Kitchen with Sink, Microwave, Mini Fridge, Coffee Maker, etc. Living Room area with Queen Sleeper couch, Dining table with 4 chairs, outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
There is a Washer / Dryer in the entry area shared only by the Guests in this specific A and B unit lock-off.
POOL / OCEAN VIEW CATEGORY:
The resort itself is Beachfront and this specific unit located in the 800 Building (see property map in the photos section), has an amazing Pool and partial Ocean vistas from the unit and the outdoor deck. This 800 Buildings are also the ones closest to the Beach.
From your 2nd floor unit you have one very huge deck, with a direct view of the Pool and a partial view of the Ocean, where you can savor watching the Sunrise over the Ocean and the Sunsets over the Sound every afternoon. Then there is another good sized deck on the other side of the unit with a breathtaking Garden View offering even better vistas of the Sunsets over the Sound. Great outdoor space available with this unit.
From the 800 Building it is possible to walk to the Resort’s private Beach access, since these buildings are closest to the beach. However, if you have a lot of beach gear, or modest kids, your best option might be to drive to the parking area right near the Outdoor Pool and Beach access. This private parking area is reserved for Resort guests where you can conveniently drop off your family and gear, or even park in the spaces included if one is available.
STAIRS / ACCESSIBILITY:
Most properties in OBX have a certain number of stairs, so that buildings are elevated and protected in case of potential flooding that could be caused by hurricanes or major storms.
Almost all the units at this resort have a certain number of stairs leading to the Front Door of the unit. Some have interior stairs to a 2nd level, or depending on the specific unit configuration, as few stairs up or down to one of the bedrooms inside the unit. The number of stairs varies depending on the specific unit configuration, and whether the unit is considered first floor, second floor, or third floor.
BIS-Duck Resort will provide assistance carrying your baggage to your unit if you would like some help.
For this specific unit:
Exterior Stairs to Front Door – 15-21 steps
Interior Stairs to 2nd level – 0 steps
UNIT INTERIORS:
This property was originally constructed in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Recently a $8+ Million dollar remodel project was started, and expected to be finished in phases thru 2022/2023.
Until the entire renovation is finished, resulting in every unit interior being modernized, you will find most unit interiors are roomy and comfortable but very dated. So while personally I would describe this overall property as very laid back, casual, and comfortable, it is important to note that these units definitely have more of a rustic, nearly like a dated cabin at the beach type feel, with older furnishings and carpets. Hopefully the photos supplied give you a general understanding for what I am describing.
The benefits offered by this resort are the overall amenities, including one of the biggest outdoor pool areas on OBX. Next to the pool area there is an onsite Sea Glass Snack Shack serving stuff like burgers and hot dogs, beverages, and water ice.
This property is definitely one of the most unique on OBX, with direct access to the both the Beach and the Sound, and in very close proximity to the many stores and eateries in the Town of Duck. You also benefit from these cavernous units being priced lower than comparable options of the same size in the area.
Many families appreciate their annual vacations at this property, however if you are a traveler that requires more opulent accommodations, this may not be the right choice for you, and you might want to consider one of the more expensive listings on Vacation Rental By Owner.
I am not trying to sound negative, because personally we enjoy this property, I just want to make sure your expectations match reality. So if you have any specific questions on this please don't hesitate to ask.
GUEST ACCESS
Your unit is private, but since this is a Resort property, amenities will be shared with other guests (Pools, Beach, Outdoor Games, etc).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- Primary Guest checking in must be at least 21 years of age with a valid ID and credit card for security deposit. If a security deposit is required, it will be returned to you after Check Out if you have not made any charges to your room.
- Barrier Island Station – Duck is professionally managed and operated by Vacation Resorts International (VRI). The Front Desk is staffed for Check-In, Check-Out, and is available for any questions, issues, or need for assistance during your stay.
- Check In time is 4:00pm and check out time is 10:00am. Please check with the resort Front Desk for any possibility of earlier unit availability and / or early use of the resort amenities during check-in days.
- Late Check In: The Front Desk / Office is open from 8am to 7pm. If you arrive after those hours you can go to the Security office and get access to your unit. Then the following morning you will need to go to the office by 11am to get officially signed in and receive your parking passes, information, etc.
- Up to two (2) COMPLIMENTARY parking passes are included with this unit, which you will receive from the Front Desk at Check In. If you need parking for an additional car you can arrange this directly with the Front Desk.
- Linens linens, including blankets, sheets, and pillows are supplied. However, if have you have any favorites blankets or pillows, or if you sleep better using a certain type of pillow, it would be good to bring your own.
- Please especially take note of the detail above about bed coverings. BIS-Duck provides Blankets but does NOT provide the heavier, bulkier Comforters that you may have on your bed at home. The Blankets on the beds should be fine for most families, but you could bring an additional Blanket or Comforter if you have any concerns about that.
- If you plan on using the Sleeper couches during your stay, I definitely recommend bringing your own sheets, pillows, and blankets, maybe even a bed pad for the Sleeper couch specifically, which can be turned into a very comfortable additional bed.
- Bath and Hand towels are supplied for you and will be inside your unit when you arrive.
- There is no daily housekeeping supplied. However your unit does have it's own Washer / Dryer in the unit that is for your use only. If additional housekeeping is desired during your stay it is available for an additional fee scheduled directly with the resort Front Desk.
- Each Unit will receive a "Starter Package" at Check In. Your unit will have basic supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc to get you thru the first day or two of your stay. However it is highly recommended to bring additional PAPER products (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, etc) and your own CLEANING products (detergents, cleaners, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc). Due to the circumstances this year you may find that local stores don't have the full inventory of supplies you need, or the specific brands you prefer to use. I recommend you definitely be prepared for this by bringing your own supplies in these categories based on what you feel you will need for the week.
- Pool / Beach towels are not included. Each family should bring their own pool / beach towels
- You should bring your own beach chairs / beach blankets / umbrellas / equipment you want to use on the beach. If you don’t bring your own stuff, you are able to rent beach chairs / umbrellas on the beach out in front of the facility.
- The new H2OBX Waterpark freshly constructed in Powell's Point is only about 15 miles away
- If you or any members of your family enjoy bicycle riding, I strongly recommend taking your own bicycles (if you have the means to do so). Bikes are a great way to move around the resort, and also ride into the Town of Duck. Bicycle units in Duck are available if you don't bring your own. Remember to take your bicycle locks so you can lock up your bicycles at the bicycle rack each nighttime.
- If you are interested in fishing while on vacation, there is Surf fishing out in front of the resort on the beach, or pier fishing from the pier on the ocean or the pier on the sound (both piers are very close to the property). You would just need to make sure you had the proper licenses though, which can be obtained effortlessly locally. There are also many rental and charter boats for fishing based out of the various inlets if you wanted access to waters farther offshore.
- Family Animals are not allowed anywhere on or in the resort property.

Strategies to get the very best Kitty Hawk rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- In the Kitty Hawk area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Kitty Hawk restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Kitty Hawk area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. BIS-Duck Resort - Poolside 2BR\/2.5BA Lockout Unit! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
