Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Kitty Hawk. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Dorrell-Ships Watch Community in Duck NC has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Kitty Hawk destination you long to visit, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
