Our top Kitty Hawk rental property booking tips:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
How to choose and book yourvacation home:
- To start, have your family select dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ships Watch Duck NC - Cheven has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
