How to find the best rental experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. New canal front one bedroom tucked in the woods. Close to beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Kitty Hawk attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
