There is so much to do in the Outer Banks, you'll need a whole week to discover everything! Start with a few lazy beach days then move to the pier for some fishing. Check out Jockey's Ridge and the Wright Brothers National Memorial. For more water fun, head to H2OBX Water Park or go kayaking, surfing, parasailing, or jet skiing. Pamper yourself at one of the local day spas or go wine tasting at Trio or Sanctuary Vineyards. Should you encounter a rainy day, there are plenty of laser tag options for the kids as well as escape rooms and the OBX Bowling Center. Don't forget to visit all of the phenomenal local eateries and specialty stores!

About the Area

Located in Kitty Hawk, this vacation home is near the beach. Wright Brothers National Memorial and Monument to a Century of Flight are local landmarks, and some of the area's attractions include Children at Play Museum and Paradise Fun Park. Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf and Stop-N-Shop Beach Shop are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

  • In the Kitty Hawk area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in Kitty Hawk. Booking in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.

  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
