About this Property
- Sleeps 8
- 2 Bedrooms
- 3 Bathrooms
- Condo
- Approximately 1500 square feet
This unique 24-acre resort property located right on the edge of the Town of Duck, NC, sits between the Ocean and the Sound, and offers access to both. This is arguably one of the best locations in the Outer Banks for convenience and walking / cycling proximity to multiple activities and dining options.
THE SPACE
From your unit you can walk to the Beach, Outdoor pool area, and the Sound. Being on the outskirts of the Town of Duck, you are just a few mins. drive from shopping or dining along the 1-mile boardwalk located along the Sound. Some people can walk / bicycle this distance, but that depends on the family. In the evenings try not to miss some of the spectacular sunsets over the Sound.
This is a very cavernous 2BR/2.5BA lock-off unit at approx. 1,500+ sq ft combined. So plenty of space for your entire family or group. This unit is rated to sleep eight persons (8).
The A side – 1BR/1.5BA: King Size bed, Full Kitchen with Stove, Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender, etc. Sit up bar / 3 stools, Dining Table / 6 chairs, Living Room area with Loveseat and Queen Sleeper couch, and outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
The B side – 1BR/1BA: King Size bed, Partial Kitchen with Sink, Microwave, Mini Fridge, Coffee Maker, etc. Living Room area with Queen Sleeper couch, Dining table with 4 chairs, outdoor Deck with table and chairs.
There is a Washer / Dryer in the entry area shared only by the Guests in this specific A and B unit lock-off.
GARDEN / SOUND VIEW CATEGORY:
Garden View Category: This unit is located in the 500 Building (see property map in the photos section), nearer to the Sound side. This is a 1st floor unit, so very few steps.
There is no view of the ocean from this unit, and the view type category is considered “Garden View.” Of the 115 total units at this resort, roughly 75% of them are considered "Garden View," which can also include a view of the grounds, other buildings, or the parking areas. Once nice additional with this specific unit is that there is a nice view of the Sound from the sizable outdoor deck on the A side.
It is possible to walk to the Resort’s private Beach access, but since this is a enormous 24+acre property that stretches from Sound to the Ocean, it can be a longer walk to the beach from certain sections of the resort versus other areas.
If you have a lot of beach gear, or modest kids, it might not be practical to walk to the beach from this unit in the summer heat (between 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile depending on unit location). Your best option might be to drive to the parking area right near the Outdoor Pool and Beach access. This private parking area is reserved for Resort guests where you can conveniently drop off your family and gear, or even park in the spaces included if one is available.
STAIRS / ACCESSIBILITY:
Most properties in OBX have a certain number of stairs, so that buildings are elevated and protected in case of potential flooding that could be caused by hurricanes or major storms.
Almost all the units at this resort have a certain number of stairs leading to the Front Door of the unit. Some have interior stairs to a 2nd level, or depending on the specific unit configuration, as few stairs up or down to one of the bedrooms inside the unit. The number of stairs varies depending on the specific unit configuration, and whether the unit is considered first floor, second floor, or third floor.
BIS-Duck Resort will provide assistance carrying your baggage to your unit if you would like some help.
For this specific unit:
Exterior Stairs to Front Door – 7 steps
Interior Stairs to 2nd level – 5 to 7 steps
UNIT INTERIORS:
This property was originally constructed in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Recently a $8+ Million dollar remodel project was started, and expected to be finished in phases thru 2023/2024.
Before the renovation started, most of the unit interiors were roomy and comfortable but very dated.
Please note this specific unit in the 500 Building section has been partially remodeled. This unit has received new Flooring throughout, new furnishings in the Living Room and bedrooms, new window coverings, freshly painted in all rooms, and the Kitchen has been refreshed (although countertops remain the same).
However, until I am able to take photos of the newly refreshed interior, I am leaving the old photos in the ad. At a very minimum the older photos should give you an idea of the layout. I have added photo(s) at the end of the interior photos that was taken inside this type of unit. It shows the new floor, furnishings, and newly painted interiors.
The benefits offered by this resort are the overall amenities, including one of the biggest outdoor pool areas on OBX. Next to the pool area there is an onsite Sea Glass Snack Shack serving stuff like burgers and hot dogs, beverages, and water ice.
This property is definitely one of the most unique on OBX, with direct access to the both the Beach and the Sound, and in very close proximity to the many stores and eateries in the Town of Duck. You also benefit from these spacious units being priced lower than comparable options of the same size in the area.
Many families savor their annual vacations at this property, however if you are a traveler that requires more extravagant accommodations, this may not be the right choice for you, and you might want to consider one of the more expensive listings on Vacation Rental By Owner.
I am not trying to sound negative, because personally we appreciate this property, I just want to make sure your expectations match reality. So if you have any specific questions on this please don't hesitate to ask.
GUEST ACCESS
Your unit is private, but since this is a Resort property, Conveniences will be shared with other guests (Pools, Beach, Outdoor Games, etc).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- Primary Guest checking in must be at least 21 years of age with a valid ID and credit card for security deposit. If a security deposit is required, it will be returned to you after Check Out if you have not made any charges to your room.
- Barrier Island Station – Duck is professionally managed and operated by Vacation Resorts International (VRI). The Front Desk is staffed for Check-In, Check-Out, and is available for any questions, issues, or need for assistance during your stay.
- Check In time is 4:00pm and check out time is 10:00am. Please check with the resort Front Desk for any possibility of earlier unit availability and / or early use of the resort amenities during check-in days.
- Late Check In: The Front Desk / Office is open from 8am to 7pm. If you arrive after those hours you can go to the Security office and get access to your unit. Then the following morning you will need to go to the office by 11am to get officially signed in and receive your parking passes, information, etc.
- Two Free parking passes are supplied with this unit, which you will receive from the Front Desk at Check In. If you need parking for an additional car you can arrange this directly with the Front Desk.
- Linens linens, including blankets, sheets, and pillows are supplied. However, if have you have any favorites blankets or pillows, or if you sleep better using a certain type of pillow, it would be good to bring your own.
- Please especially take note of the detail above about bed coverings. BIS-Duck provides Blankets but does NOT provide the heavier, bulkier Comforters that you may have on your bed at home. The Blankets on the beds should be fine for most families, but you could bring an additional Blanket or Comforter if you have any concerns about that.
- If you plan on using the Sleeper couches during your stay, I definitely recommend bringing your own sheets, pillows, and blankets, maybe even a bed pad for the Sleeper couch specifically, which can be turned into a very comfortable additional bed.
- Bath and Hand towels are supplied for you and will be inside your unit when you arrive.
- There is no daily housekeeping included. However your unit does have it's own Washer / Dryer in the Foyer area that is for your use only. If additional housekeeping is desired during your stay it is available for an additional fee scheduled directly with the resort Front Desk.
- Each Unit will receive a "Starter Package" at Check In. Your unit will have basic supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc to get you thru the first day or two of your stay. However it is highly recommended to bring additional PAPER products (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, etc) and your own CLEANING products (detergents, cleaners, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc). Due to the circumstances this year you may find that local stores don't have the full inventory of supplies you need, or the specific brands you prefer to use. I recommend you definitely be prepared for this by bringing your own supplies in these categories based on what you feel you will need for the week.
- Pool / Beach towels are not supplied. Each family should bring their own pool / beach towels
- You should bring your own beach chairs / beach blankets / umbrellas / equipment you want to use on the beach. If you don’t bring your own stuff, you are able to rent beach chairs / umbrellas on the beach out in front of the facility.
- The new H2OBX Waterpark freshly constructed in Powell's Point is only about 15 miles away
- If you or any members of your family enjoy bicycle riding, I strongly recommend taking your own bicycles (if you have the means to do so). Bikes are a great way to move around the resort, and also ride into the Town of Duck. Bicycle units in Duck are available if you don't bring your own. Remember to take your bicycle locks so you can lock up your bicycles at the bicycle rack each nighttime.
- If you are interested in fishing while on vacation, there is Surf fishing out in front of the resort on the beach, or pier fishing from the pier.
- Animals are not allowed anywhere on or in the resort property.

Tips to get the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kitty Hawk. Reserve your Kitty Hawk rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. BIS-Duck Resort - 2BR\/2.5BA - Great Pool and Beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a particular Kitty Hawk destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for a great stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
