Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kitty Hawk. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Three bedroom cottage with Ocean Views- A beach-lover's paradise! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
