Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer is high season in Kitty Hawk. Book your Kitty Hawk vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Kitty Hawk area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Saltaire Cottages14: Just Renovated! 4BR Private Beach Access Ocean View Pool! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kitty Hawk rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Tips for a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
