Tips and Tricks to get the very best Kitty Hawk rental home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- To get the best value, shift your family's Kitty Hawk vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:

- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Kitty Hawk beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
