Tricks and tips to get the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kitty Hawk area. Book your Kitty Hawk rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Enjoy Ocean & Sunrise Views Just Steps from the Sand has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
