Located amid sand dunes and sea oats is Barrier Island Station. One of the northern-most communities on the Outer Banks, Duck offers some of the last remaining unspoiled beachfront on the Eastern seaboard. Both the Atlantic Ocean and the sound present superb water-sport opportunities. The resort has many amenities, including sailboats, windsurfers, and rafts. When it's time for a change from the oceanfront, you can swim in the outdoor or indoor pools, play a set of tennis, or just relax in the whirlpool, sauna, or steam room.
About the Area

Our top Vacation rental tips:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your Kitty Hawk vacation rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Barrier Island Station 1 has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Kitty Hawk beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
