Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book a Kitty Hawk rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your Kitty Hawk vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kitty Hawk vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kitty Hawk area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kitty Hawk visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in the Kitty Hawk area:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. KH3964- Spectacular Home! 6 BRs, Pool Table, Gym, Private Pool, Views! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
