Strategies to get the perfect Kitty Hawk vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Kitty Hawk vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kitty Hawk visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the best Kitty Hawk rental home:
- Start by having your group choose trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. OceanSound - 500 Feet to the Ocean in Duck, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
